Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Suleiman Kazaure, has warned that any corps member found violating electoral laws during the forthcoming general elections would be prosecuted.
Kazaure also admonished corps members that would be on election duty to shun unnecessary ‘friendship’ with politicians for monetary gains
He gave this warning in Enugu on Saturday while addressing corps members on the expected conduct during the forthcoming elections.
The NYSC boss noted that security agencies had been mobilised to provide cover for the corps members, thus Corp members must be security conscious.
He said, “Study your environment and be security conscious. When face with obvious danger, secure yourself first.
“Do not enter vehicles belonging to politicians and strangers as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will provide all your needs,”he said.
According to him, participation of corps members in the election as ad hoc staff is not by compulsion, but a voluntary service to your fatherland.
In his remarks, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Emeka Ononamadu, assured that the 2,958 Presiding Officers to be sourced from the NYSC would have insurance cover.
He also said that adequate logistics that covered incentives and vehicles for easy movement to areas of deployment had been put in place.
