President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress national party chairman were on Monday attacked at the party’s rally held in Abeokuta.
The President was stoned with materials suspected to be shoes and stones as he raised the hand of APC governorship candidate, Dapo Abiodun.
As a result of the violence, activities at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, was paused for some minutes as bodyguards guarded the president to avoid being hit by the objects being thrown at him and other party members.
The development angered the leaders of the party, including former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, who left the podium while the President was making his remarks.
The programme had kicked off officially after the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari at the MKO Abiola Internmational stadium, Abeokuta after he had earlier taken his next level campaign to Kwara state before flying into Ogun.
Trouble however started when Oshiomhole was called upon to deliver his speech and suspected hoodlums booed him continuously and attempted to stone him save the intervention of security operatives at the campaign ground.
He was finally forced to end his speech abruptly after the programme was paused for some minutes but normalcy could not be restored.
One of the stones flew in the direction where the President was sitting but one of the security operatives took the hit for the President.
The development angered the leaders of the party, including the national leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The host governor, Ibikunle Amosun thereafter took the microphone to appeal to the angry crowd.
