The electorates in Osun state have been casting their votes since the early hours of today, Saturday, September 22 to determine who succeeds Governor Rauf Aregbesola as the next ruler of the state. Though, the overall atmosphere during the poll was peaceful, there were reports of vote-buying by some political parties. The police has made some arrests while there are pictures and at least a video in circulation showing alleged vote-buying incidences and offenders. Of the 48 candidates put forward by the same number of political parties for the election, five candidates from ADC, ADP, APC, PDP and SDP were the main contenders battling for the 1,246,915 INEC-confirmed votes in the state.
These top contenders include a former secretary to the state government, Fatai Akinbade (ADC); immediate past secretary to the state government, Moshood Adeoti (ADP); the candidate of the governing party, Adegboyega Oyetola (APC); a serving senator, Ademola Adeleke (PDP); and a former senator, Iyiola Omisore (SDP).

Meanwhile, unconfirmed results of the election are now coming in from the various polling units across the southwest state. NAIJ.com notes that these are not the official results which will be announced by the electoral commission INEC in due course. Don’t forget to refresh your browser always for fresh updates.
